HDFaces bring Face to Face meetings to GoToMeeting
GoToMeeting recently launched the HDFaces option to make your meetings feel a little more personal. HDFaces enables high-definition video conferencing with one click. I use GoToMeeting and GoToWebinar all the time for my job at Valencia for training and virtual meetings. I find this to be one of the better web conference tools available on the market.

We just got all the accounts ready to try this new feature, which requires just a quick update in software and a webcam on your computer. This option will allow up to 6 way HD video conferencing along with the typical screen sharing capabilities available with GoToMeeting. It’s purely software based, will not require any specifial hardware and using 20% less bandwidth than a standard video conferencing solution.
It was time to test this new feature and have a little geeky fun playing with this upgrade.
I would suggest getting an upgrade in webcam, I know mine is outdated being a 1.3 megapixel Microsoft LifeCam, which wasn’t very clear. I found the Microsoft LifeCam Cinema 720p HD Webcam on Amazon for only $38.95, which would be a great solution for a webcam at 8.0 megapixel and lots of good extra features.
The functions to utilize the HDFaces features seem very intuitive and easy to learn for even those non-techies on the other end of the meeting.
One of the features that is currently missing for HDFaces is the option to record the webcams during the meeting. Hopefully this will be a new feature added in the near future. I didn’t get to try the GoToMeeting iPhone and iPad apps that allow you to view a meeting with this new feature. I’m not sure how the webcam feature would work on these. Guess I’ll have some more testing to do tomorrow.
Will this increase the number of people utilizing GoToMeeting at the college?
Will this new feature cause people to rethink the humanizing part of the virtual meeting?
Can I have some virtual days to work at home?
