Maker Faire Orlando Returns October 21-22nd

Maker Faire Orlando 2017 Oct 12 & 22, 2017The sixth annual Maker Faire Orlando will be held – indoors and outdoors – at the Central Florida Fairgrounds and Expo Halls on Saturday, October 21st and Sunday, October 22nd. The two-day event is a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for these “makers” to show attendees experiments, projects, hobbies, and introduce audiences of all ages to science, technology, art, and more.

Part science fair, part steampunk convention, part craft fair, and part something entirely new, Maker Faire is an all-ages gleeful celebration of innovation by tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors. All of these “makers” come to Maker Faire to show what they have made, how they made it, and what they have learned. Adults and children alike walk away inspired and with a belief that they, too, can create something new and unique.

“We are excited!  This is the sixth annual Maker Faire in Orlando, and we have expanded again. Central Florida is home to an amazingly diverse maker community,” said Ian Cole, co-founder of The Maker Effect Foundation. “This year we are able to do more because of a generous grant from Orange County Arts & Cultural Affairs and continued support from local maker groups. With the growth of the maker movement, we are proud to highlight the diverse maker community in Florida.”

Maker Faire Orlando includes:

Combat robots in two arenas and five weight classes (150 gram, 1 pound, 3 pounds, 15 pounds, and 220 pounds). These robots are built by amateurs through professionals.  Nine of the teams from the television show Battlebots are from Florida, and two of them will be here showing and telling people about their robots.

Exhibitors – over 300 exhibitors will show you what they do and how they do it, and if you’re interested you can purchase unique items from many of these makers.

Nerdy Derby Racing is a miniature car building and racing competition inspired by the Cub Scouts’ Pinewood Derby. You can bring a car to race, or build one onsite using recycled materials! Sponsored by Factur.

Power Racing – here are the rules:  start with a Power Wheels vehicle, and modify it with a big electric motor, then pilot it around the track for glory! The latest rules allow for fully custom vehicles, as long as they appear to have been designed for kids, or could once have been a ride-on toy.

Hands-on workshops that range from the art and science of chocolate making to DIY cinematography and lighting techniques to make your own movies.
