Can Social Media Equal Social Good? WALK-N-ROLL® for Spina Bifida
This is Chance –
Chance was born on February 22, 2011 with spina bifida.
Spina bifida is a condition that affects the spine and is usually apparent at birth. It is a type of neural tube defect. Spina bifida can happen anywhere along the spine if the neural tube does not close all the way. The backbone that protects the spinal cord does not form and close as it should. This often results in damage to the spinal cord and nerves.
Chance was born with myelomeningocele, the most severe type of spina bifida, where an opening in his back was present at birth. Due to this defect he underwent surgery when he was only about four hours old to repair the defect and at only a week old underwent a surgery to place a shunt due to hydrocephalus (additional fluid on the brain) that commonly develops in spina bifida patients. He’s since undergone a total of eight surgeries and has proven what a strong little guy he is. Despite all the challenges he’s faced in his short life he’s proven to be such a happy little guy who is such a blessing.
Attention Bloggers, Educators, Entrepreneurs, Enthusiast, Philanthropist, Social Media Gurus, and anyone else who can help spread the word. I need your help in proving social media can equal social good by supporting the Central Florida WALK-N-ROLL® for Spina Bifida.
I posted awhile back about an example of how Social Media Can Lead to Social Good. Now I want you to help me prove it again!
I’m asking for your support, social media networks, words of wisdom, philanthropy, and charity to pass along this event and help me raise money for Team Chance!
My personal goal is $750 – if everyone that reads my blog in one day would donate $5 this would be completed instantly.
The Team Chance goal is $10,000! Can we do it? With your help we can!
Why is this important to me?
A fellow faculty member and friend, Amanda Kern, is the mother of Chance. I have been following his story, even before he was born, as Amanda shared his journey through her blog. She is a tenure track Professor at Valencia in Graphics Technology, and a professional photographer with amazing work, especially with newborns. She has donated her time photographing for various charities and support groups to bring happiness to others. I wanted to donate some of my time helping raise money for this cause and support the Central Florida WALK-N-ROLL® for Spina Bifida in honor of this special little guy.
Please take a moment to support Team Chance so we can help all those affected by spina bifida.
