Downtown Orlando Global Game Jam Took Over The Melrose Center

Global Game Jam events were held all over the world this past weekend. Downtown Orlando Global Game Jam took over the Melrose Center at the Downtown Library and was one of the largest attended in the world. More than 150 independent game developers, students, designers, and creatives participated in creating over 23 games in a weekend. This placed Orlando sixth globally in participation and third nationally with both the Downtown and Full Sail locations.

The Global Game Jam is the world’s largest game creation event taking place around the world at physical locations. Think of it as a 48-hour hackathon focused on game development. The weekend stirs a global creative buzz in games, while at the same time exploring the process of development, be it programming, iterative design, narrative exploration, or artistic expression. Showcasing that developing a game takes a lot of different types of talent to make it successful.

Games varied from bun and hot dog combo trying to escape a convenient store in Jackpot to a game utilizing Oculus Rift to simulate political figures trying to dodge questions, by literally dodging them.
