The SXSWedu Conference & Festival marks its fifth anniversary as it opens registration for its 2015 event, to occur March 9-12, 2015 in Austin, Texas. Get tickets for 50% off the door price, for a steal of only $245 until September 12, 2014.

This year’s conference program will principally be the result of more than 1,000 session and workshop proposals submitted by the public through PanelPicker, SXSW’s crowd-sourced programming submission platform. The array of session and workshop proposals will be evaluated by SXSWedu’s Advisory Board and staff as well as the public, who can comment and vote on proposed programming August 11 – September 5, 2014 at http://panelpicker.sxsw.com.

Beginning August 4, SXSWedu invites the community’s participation in shaping a number of additional programming elements for its 2015 event:

LAUNCHedu, an entrepreneurs’ competition at SXSWedu, encourages early-stage education startups to apply to compete. The Playground, SXSWedu’s expanded makerspace highlighting successful student-centered learning initiatives, welcomes applications for interactive displays. The eduFILM program is accepting proposals for education-focused documentaries and narratives to screen at the event; while the Education Expo, a free and open to the public component of SXSWedu highlighting Central Texas’ varied opportunities for learning, welcomes institutions and organizations interested in interactive displays to support the community’s rich hunger for learning. “SXSWedu is a community-fueled event,” said Ron Reed, Executive Producer. “Our attendees’ energy, passion and dedication to modernizing teaching and learning are simply amazing. We’re honored to provide a platform to celebrate their many successes and help problem-solve their ongoing challenges.”

SXSWedu has grown each year since the event was first launched in 2011— from 800 education professionals its inaugural year to more than 6,000 education stakeholders at SXSWedu 2014 representing early learning through college and continuing education. Notable speakers at past SXSWedu events include: Arne Duncan, U.S. Secretary of Education; Anant Agarwal, edX; Andrew Ng, Coursera; Asenath Andrews, Catherine Ferguson Academy; Rod Paige, past U.S. Secretary of Education; Bill Gates; and actors and education champions, LeVar Burton and Jeffrey Tambor.
