QR Code – It’s at the Zoo too

Recently on vacation I got to visit the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium http://www.pittsburghzoo.org/. I found this to be an excellent zoo with a good variety of animals, most exhibits have multiple view points, lots of areas for kids, and some unique extras available. What kind of extras?

QR Code!

This summer, the zoo is giving guest a new way to learn about Zoo animals. The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium is the first host site for WQED’s iQ Zoo, an innovative program that combines smartphone technology, PBS KIDS GO! multimedia content, and dynamic information about Zoo animals.

iQ Zoo lets guest access audio clips, videos, and other information about animals while at the Zoo. All that’s needed is an internet-enabled smartphone (e.g. iPhones and Android devices) that can scan QR (quick response) codes using a free mobile app.

Polar Bear QR Code

The QR Code once scanned would take you to this mobile site to learn more about Polar Bears http://www.iqzoo.org/animals/polar-bear/

Another neat feature available that kids love are the Zoo Keys

Zoo Keys are available for $2 at the admission gates and at all Zoo gift shops. Zoo Keys unlock learning experiences at 24 locations within the Zoo. Just put your key into the box at each exhibit and enjoy an entertaining song or flip the key over to learn interesting animal facts.
